Dustclaw paced as he waited for his sister Whitelotus the Shadowclan Medicine Cat to finish. She had been checking on the small kit for what now seemed like ages, much longer than the moody tom thought it should. His mother Patchstorm had tried to console him, but nothing would calm the male's tension. A kit had been taken! What's worse, it seemed to have just waltz right out of camp through the main entrance! How a kit had gotten so far was beyond him, but he wanted to be sure it wouldn't happen again. Patchstorm had agreed to head out with a patrol and try to recover the breached boarder as well as find Smolderstar and her patrol before returning to camp. The brown stripped tom looked up hoping to see his sister, but still nothing. He continued to pace, making a grove where he had been moving for the last while. Others came and went, many were scent to guard the boarders, while others were sent to bring supplies to strengthen and fortify the camp in case of an attack, with the war closing in, the could not afford for be cause unawares.
(OOC: Sorry it's not a very good post, my muse is low but I said I would post. I hope to get back into things soon)

Smolderstar, finishing the long hunting patrol, walked into camp with several fine catches. Her patrol had done great today and the clan would have a feast. She had been out for quite some time, so after depositing the prey, she went to Dustclaw to see if there was any new news. She noticed he seemed very tense. She sniffed the air and a strange, almost frightening and anxious feeling filled her nose. She could tell something was not right in the clan. "Dustclaw? What is wrong?" She asked simply, keeping herself calm. If something was wrong, she needed to keep a level-head so she would be able to find the best course of action to correct the problem. Her warm, curious eyes glanced around the camp for any other hints of trouble. There was a lot of movement in the camp, but nothing too out of ordinary. She noticed the Medicine Cat had not come out to greet her yet and tell her of the days sickness, but Smoldercstar guessed she may be busy or not have heard her patrol returning. Smolderstar also noticed the quietness from the nursery. There were no kits running around camp playing and pestering the older warriors. They weren't even playing inside the nursery. It was too early for them to be tired and napping already. That worried her. Smolderstar took a deep breath and put her focus on Dustclaw, hoping to get some answers.

Dustclaw had not gotten far when he heard movement. Looking up he spotted a patrol returning and from the sound and scents he could tell Smolderstar was among them. He let out his pent up breath as he moved to meet her. He could tell from her tone and knew something had happened. His fur ungroomed and covered in the dust he had kicked up likely not helping any.
Nothing, no everything! He started, but realized his nerves had gotten the best of him and stopped to take a deep breath before starting over. A kit was found covered in rouge scent near the boarder. No one noticed a thing, and it was just luck a patrol caught the scent and followed it. It seems the kit slipped out while everyone was still asleep. Whitelotus is looking it over now, but no harm seems to have come, but from what I have heard the rouge was not found. I did not get there until after the area had been cleared. He said, then again looked toward the Medicine Den hoping to see his sister any minute now. Just them she poked her head out and spotting the pair motioned for them to join her in her den. He looked at Smolderstar allowing her to take the lead, though he wanted to race to his sister's side and find out what she had learned. He hoped the kit was talking, when they found it nothing the warriors tried would get the kit to open up and talk, odd for a kit that had only last night been talking the ears off all the cats of Shadowclan.

Smolderstar's eyes widened as she heard the story. She listened quietly and nodded. Before responding to Dustclaw, she looked to a group of warriors that were close by, "Gather some bracken and thick brush, fill in any holes around the camp walls. Make them thicker too. Any tiny holes a grasshopper could fit through, I want them filled." Her voice was stern and filled with urgency. The warriors nodded and went to work.
Smolderstar turned back to Dustclaw as Whitelotus motioned for them to enter. Smolderstar quickly entered the den. She looked down at the small kit and her mind filled with questions, but she kept quiet, waiting for the Medicine cat to fill her in on the kit's condition. She didn't want to bombard the young one with questions if she was not well enough for it.

Dustclaw looked anxiously at his sister as they entered the Medicine Cat's den. The beautiful white tiger striped female met his gaze before turning to address Smolderstar. There is no sign of harm, but he hasn't said a word since returning. She reported mournfully to her leader. No matter what she had done to get the kit to speak, he refused to open his mouth, even when offered honey and other treats. She sighed as she looked fondly at the young tom, unsure what to do. She did not want to pressure him into speaking, knowing it might make matters worse, but they needed to know.
Dustclaw glared at his paws, brooding in his thoughts. The large tom wasn't as gentle and patient as his sister, but he knew that threats would not work on the kit. He lashed the tip of his tail as he thought, then taking his leave he hurried out of the den, needing to be doing something. Ordering a few other warriors to go with him, he also asked some of the ones remaining to help from inside the camp with the repairs and provisions.

Smolderstar nodded to the Medicine cat then looked down at the kit. She laid down in front of him and made eye contact. She softly blinked and waited quietly for a few moments. She kept her fur smooth and her eyes soft, trying to appear as non-threatening as possible. She wondered what the young kit had been doing, if he had sneaked out for an adventure or if a rouge had come into the camp and taken him. She wanted to know so she could make the camp more secure. If some cat had gotten in without them knowing, there was a huge problem.
After a few moments of silence, she spoke in a soft tone, "You know you aren't in trouble, right? I'm not upset with you. Just worried. We were afraid someone hurt you. We need to know if you went adventuring or if someone came into camp and taken you. We will protect you no matter what. Do you trust me, little one?" She ended her gentle words with another slow blink and a slight tilt of her head. If he wasn't ready to talk, all they could do is wait and fortify the camp. She didn't want to scare him into talking if he wasn't ready because a scared kit may get his memories mixed up and say things that didn't happen. They needed the truth.

Whitelotus' eyes followed her brother out as he left her den. She knew he was just worried, and let him go without a word. He would be back later to speak with her, and she hoped by them the kit would be talking once again. She turned back to find that Smolderstar had laid down in an attempt to get the stubborn tom to speak. 'Promise?' He finally spoke up softly in his faint, squeaky voice. Whitelotus listened intently as their leader spoke with the tiny tom. That was way more progress than Whitelotus had made all day. Maybe it was a matter of rank? She wasn't sure, but she was glad to know at least that the kit still could speak, which she had silently worried about before. By refusing to open his mouth, he could have been hiding an internal injury but fortunately that did not seem to be the case.

Smolderstar nodded with a slight smile. She was happy the kit was talking now, "I promise," she reaffirmed. She waited a few moments then spoke again, "Why don't you tell me your story from the beginning. Tell me everything you can remember, alright?" Smolderstar kept her voice soft and gentle as she spoke to the kit. She stretched out a bit to show the kit she was relaxed and not upset with him. She glanced up at Whitelotus and spoke to her, "Go make sure your brother is alright. I'll take care of this one for a bit."

The blacked striped Medicine Cat watched, silently impressed that the leader had made a connection with the kit so quickly. She stayed back, not wanting to break the kit's change in response. Her deep blue eyes showing her admiration as she watched the two. As Smolderstar turned a moment to dismiss her she nodded and silently walked out, happy for the excuse to speak to her brother. She knew that he needed to gather himself, but he would soon want someone to talk to. She wanted to support him however she could.
The small fluffy kit looked at his leader. He was frightened at first, but now had a senses of peace, a small burst of confidence. Having been assured he wasn't in trouble, he was happy to be able to tell his leader something important. His nerve failed him for a moment when the beautiful white she-cat left, but then returning his eyes to the dark tortoiseshell he remembered it was important. 'I woke up...and um...smelled? Yeah, there was something odd, a strange smell so I followed it. I expected to be scolded, but it never happened. Then...um? Oh! There was this warrior, a large male. He showed me some really cool moves, then left. He told me to keep walking the way I was going... Something about meeting me close to a boarder? I followed, moving the way he pointed...Then... Uh? I don't really know what happened. I heard a fight, he was fighting another cat, this one not of the clans, she stank! But I hid and didn't see what happened. He said, halting every few words, trying to think. Likely as not there was much more to the story than the young tom knew, but for one so young he showed promise at least in his observation skills.

Smolderstar nodded, "Do you think you would be able to lead some warriors and I to where you went? Or would you be able to pick out the scent again if you smelled it?" Smolderstar hoped the young tom would be able to at least point out a direction for them to search. Having strange cats on her territory was not an option. She needed to find out where these cats were and chase them off quickly before any other cats were taken or hurt. She was relieved that the kit wasn't hurt by the strange cats and was able to alert hurt to the situation. It could have been very dangerous for the entire clan if they were unaware of the strangers. Smolderstar spoke again to reassure the tom, "This information will help us out a lot. Good apprentices and warriors always tell the leader what they found out. It will help us keep everyone safe." She added a soft purr, showing she was proud of him.

The fluffy kit stared at the wall of the den, seeing again the events of that morning. His tiny mouth open in a silent scream. His ears slowly moved back, his body crouched. Then something the brought him back to the present. He looked up startled. His eyes large as he turned to look at the she-cat next to him. Then he realized it was Smolderstar. He shook away the remnants of the thought and met her eyes as she spoke. At her question he returned his gaze to his tiny paws.
He was sure he would never forget that scent, or what the warrior looked like, but was he ready to face his fears? The terrors had only happened that morning, a few hours ago, and he was so young! What this his story? He had prayed to Starclan for adventure, and a chance to prove himself, but had not expected this in the least! He was only four moons old! Nearing five, but still not old enough to be an apprentice yet. Then a mischievous gleam entered his eyes. Maybe...
As she pressed in importance of the matter, he puffed his small chest out with pride. She had compared him to other apprentices and warriors. Now was his chance. Her purr gave him his signal.
"Will you make me an apprentice? If I can help?" He asked, his voice edging on cocky in tone, but completely serious too. If it wasn't sure a heavy matter, this whole scene would be humorous to anyone who may have jut walked in, the small kit so full of himself that he is trying to sway his leader. The silly rascal. A kit his age had great difficulty looking serious, no matter what when they were so full of themselves, yet so small. He had returned to himself at last, the usual paw-full of fluff he had a reputation for.
